March 4, 2011, New YorkThe first time I met my dad, I was nineteen years old, it was 2002. When I was younger I invented stories to tell my friends that would justify his absence. He was a prince, a king, a business man, an oil barron and he was, depending on the day, African, American, Arab or Australian, always traveling trying to conquer the world. That was why he wasn’t there. The reality was quite different, my father worked as a taxi driver in the streets of Manhattan.

September 19, 2011, HaitiEdouard Vieux: “I have been the keeper of our history for centuries. The great great grandmother of the whole family was named Drucine Gramont. She was a mulatto of an extraordinary beauty. She married the Duc de Rossignol who was the owner of all the land I own. She was the biggest whore in all of the Caribbean. Her second marriage was with General Guy Joseph Bonnet who was the Secretary of the Emperor Jean Jacques Dessalines. Her daughter, the great grandmother of all the Pinkcombe aided the election of President Louis Felicité Salomon Jeune of the Haïtian republic. It was he who consolidated all the property, Pellerin, la Tête-de - L’eau, le Mont-Calvaire and everything that the Vieux Family owned. These women were all extraordinary courtesans, the most beautiful emancipated slaves of the entire colony.â€
